What is Golfer's Elbow?

Medial epicondylitis, better known as golfer’s elbow, is an over-use injury of the tendons around the inside of your elbow. It tends to occur as a reaction to an increased demand on the tendons, beyond their capability.  

 

Symptoms can include of pain and stiffness, which is usually temporarily reduced with brief gentle movement.

 

But I dont play golf? Contrary to what the name implies, you don’t have to play golf to get golfer’s elbow!

What can cause it Golfer's Elbow?

 

Repetitive day-to-day tasks and movements that can irritate the tendons include of:

– Opening jars.

– Painting.

– Gripping objects.

– Hammering.

– Typing.

– Sports such as rowing or weight lifting can also be more susceptible. 

Pretty much any repetitive movements that involves facing your forearms up, bending your wrists towards yourself and bending your fingers, can irritate these tendons.

Treatment & Management for Golfer's Elbow:

  • Reduce activities that irritate the tendons.
  • Improve blood flow to the area (hot water bottle).
  • Implementing supports or braces.
  • Ergonomic (workplace) adjustments.
  • Osteopathic treatment : can include of manual therapy, education & exercise prescription.
